Top Kids Party Venues in Pretoria

Every child has their own idea of what makes a birthday exciting. For some, it might be having somewhere new to explore; for others, it could be trying something different or simply having plenty of space to play. Pretoria has venues that cater to those different kinds of birthday-day excitement, giving families plenty of ways to celebrate outside the usual party at home.

With its jacaranda-lined streets, leafy suburbs and open spaces, Pretoria has a strong outdoor character. From areas such as Groenkloof and Faerie Glen to Pretoria East and the surroundings of the Magaliesberg, the city and its outskirts offer a variety of settings for families looking to make a birthday feel like more than just a gathering around a cake. The warm Highveld climate also makes outdoor celebrations appealing for much of the year, although summer thunderstorms are something parents may want to consider when choosing a venue.

For parents, a dedicated party venue can also take some of the pressure out of planning. Having a place that already has activities, facilities or entertainment available means there is less need to organise every game and find ways to keep a group of excited children occupied. If catering or refreshments are also taken care of, parents can spend more of the day enjoying the celebration rather than worrying about the practical details.

Children’s parties are also becoming increasingly centred around experiences and individual interests. One child may want an active day filled with exploration, while another may prefer something more relaxed, creative or connected to the natural world. Choosing a celebration around what the birthday child actually enjoys can make the occasion feel more personal and give young guests something to remember.

If you’re looking beyond the usual party setup for your child’s next birthday, these Pretoria destinations offer two different ways to make the celebration feel special while giving children plenty to experience on the day.

Pretoria National Botanical Garden

The Pretoria National Botanical Garden gives families plenty of reasons to stay for more than just the birthday cake. Covering 76 hectares in Pretoria’s eastern suburbs, the garden includes a range of themed garden areas, walking trails and facilities for visitors.

For younger guests, one of the main attractions is the Children’s Edutainment Garden, which was unveiled in late 2024. Designed to combine play and learning, the space includes swings, slides and a climbing wall, alongside interactive maze games and puzzles aimed at developing problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Traditional South African games including morabaraba and diketo are also incorporated into the play area.

The garden’s setting also gives families room to make a day of the visit. Lawns around the Children’s Edutainment Garden provide space for picnics and relaxation, while the restaurant is situated nearby. There are also several hiking trails for families wanting to explore more of the garden, and the site includes a green gym for visitors looking to add some activity to their outing.

For a birthday celebration, the combination of a dedicated children’s play area, picnic-friendly lawns and plenty to explore means the garden can form the backdrop to a celebration without needing to rely on a conventional party-venue setup.

Asher’s Farm Sanctuary

For children who would choose animals over balloons any day, Asher’s Farm Sanctuary offers a very different kind of birthday outing. Situated on an 8.5-hectare property in Pretoria East, the sanctuary provides a home for rescued farm animals and invites visitors to learn more about the animals in its care.

Families can meet residents including cows, pigs, chickens, horses and other farm animals through the sanctuary’s weekend tours. These visits provide an opportunity to hear the animals’ individual stories while getting a closer look at the work involved in running a rescue sanctuary. The sanctuary also offers a Groom a Horse experience, giving visitors the chance to interact with rescued horses through hands-on grooming.

There is also a 100% plant-based restaurant on the property, giving families somewhere to eat during their visit. For celebrations, Asher’s offers bespoke plant-based event packages that can be customised to the occasion, with optional extras including pre-packed party packs and tractor rides.
