Kip McGrath Walmer Celebrates a Decade of Educational Excellence

Kip McGrath Walmer Celebrates a Decade of Educational Excellence

On 1 September 2025, Kip McGrath Education Centres Walmer in Gqeberha proudly marks its 10th anniversary. Since opening its doors in 2015, the centre has supported around 850 students and their families by helping children build confidence and reach their academic potential.

Centre Director, Chrizelle Prinsloo, first discovered the Kip McGrath franchise through a family friend who had recently purchased a centre in Cape Town. After being inspired by her friend’s excitement, she began researching the brand.

“What struck me immediately,” Chrizelle recalls, “was that the Kip McGrath franchise was doing what I had always found so difficult in a traditional classroom—helping each child at their own level of competency. Even as a special needs teacher, with the help of an assistant, we could never fully differentiate the learning materials to meet every learner’s individual needs.”

To her surprise, she discovered that the Walmer branch was for sale. After meeting with the Kip McGrath Master Franchisor, she took the leap into business ownership. Having grown up in the city, she knew the area well and knew that this was an opportunity not to be missed.

“Although it was scary, the next step was very clear,” she says. “I bought the Walmer territory, and the rest is history.”

Over the past decade, Kip McGrath Walmer has become a trusted part of the local community, offering professional tuition in mathematics, English and Afrikaans as well as support across a range of school subjects, including a Study Skills course. The centre’s personalised learning approach continues to set it apart, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to succeed. Upon reflecting on the last 10 years of being a business owner and still being involved in teaching, Chrizelle says, “Building relationships with our students and their parents is our main goal. Students often come to us after struggling with schoolwork for a while. Our first goal is to help students realise that they can master the work when it is presented at a level referred to as the ‘Goldilocks principle’-not too easy, not too difficult, but just right!”

She also mentions that it is a misconception that only students struggling with schoolwork attend lessons at the centre. “We are often approached by parents who know that their child can get a distinction in a subject and is underperforming, even though they are passing the subject or scoring higher than the class average. We focus on helping each student reach their full potential and that means that parents and students feel a sense of relief and pride when reports are issued and their goals have been met.”

As Kip McGrath Walmer celebrates this milestone, Chrizelle looks forward to the next chapter: “It has been a privilege and extremely humbling to walk this journey with so many families. I am excited to see how many more students we can empower in the years ahead.”
