Why drawing is good for your Children

Child Drawing Art

Parents often give their children paper and colourful crayons to play with in their spare time. Finding creative ways for your child to spend on their lazy days is always a good thing. But why is drawing and colouring considered a crucial part of raising your child? Children draw to express what they are feeling and thinking. Drawing is an especially important outlet for children, who do not yet have the verbal skills to communicate their feelings. When a child draws something familiar to them, for example, a cat, they have the opportunity to think about what they know and how they feel towards this animal. They use their memory to recall what they know about cats, thus expanding their concentration skills. Drawing also helps to develop manipulative skills that will assist children to write. Drawing also teaches your child important lessons and will inspire their confidence as they progress. They can learn that persistence and practice can improve their skills, which will make them more persistent and self-assured as they age. Drawing teaches children to make decisions and can improve visual and perceptual skills as well. For those times when your child wanders around with nothing to do saying “I’m bored!” you can simply tell them “Why don’t you draw?” so that they have something fun and creative to spend their time on.

And make drawing an adventure by giving your child different material and stationary to use, like chalk and coloured paper.
