The Garden Route is one of South Africa’s favourite family holiday destinations because there is so much to do. Tsitsikamma is famous for it’s host of adventure activities, Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay for their awesome beaches and Knysna for its beautiful lagoon.
In such a family friendly environment one would expect a lot of kids-friendly restaurants and here are a list of those that we would recommend.
île de païn – Thesen Island, Knysna

This isn’t just one of the top kid-friendly restaurants in Knysna, it is one of the best restaurants in the whole country. Famous for it’s bakery and its outstanding breakfast and lunches île de païn is a destination restaurant. Whether you sit in the busy interior or in the spacious courtyard, kids are welcome.
My children love this restaurant and, when ever we drive through Knysna, they ask if we can stop for a meal or just a takeaway.
They take no reservations and they are always busy so get there early to secure your spot. They’re open Tuesday – Saturday with breakfast served from 08:00-11:30 and lunch from 12.00 to 15.00.
Wild Oats Market – Sedgefield

Strictly speaking this is not a restaurant but this farmer’s market does have a collection of some excellent food stalls. Another of my kids favourite destinations on the Garden Route, we will time a visit in this area to be on a Saturday, the day that the market is open, simply to order a takeaway coffee and breakfast bun or lunch time shawarma.
When visiting we usually gather a collection of superb cold meats, fresh fruit, delicious chesses and oven fresh bread for a picnic at our next stop. Located off the N2 on the George side of Sedgefield.
