There are not enough adjectives to describe this delightful, charming, one-of-a-kind, beautifully restored Red Caboose.
Situated on Red Earth Farm just two hours from Cape Town and four kilometres from McGregor, the Red Caboose is a 1941 SAR caboose carriage, and features many of the original fixtures, bringing back a wonderful sense of nostalgia.
The original vintage décor adds to the charm of the caboose and great attention has been paid to detail.
The caboose sits on its own piece of railway line with a door on each end leading on to a ‘platform’ with a railway bench.
This idyllic spot has a stretch of lawn in front with a picnic table and a swing seat under the trees, a splash pool to wallow in for those warm summer days and a boma with a fire pit where guests can enjoy a braai. A wood fired hot tub is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the wonders of nature surrounding the carriage with beautiful valley and mountain views, and a great place to star gaze at the clear night sky.
Guests are also afforded safe and secure parking on the premises.
Accommodation in the Red Caboose
The interior of the Caboose is well designed with two bedrooms and a bathroom and can accommodate two adults and two children. The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two of the original bunk beds providing a cosy and snug sleeping space for children. Crisp white linen and towels are provided.
The bathroom has a full size bath and the hand basin is the original SAR stainless steel pull out basin, as is the toilet.
The Red Caboose has a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy dining booth with an adjustable table.
Nearby activities include horse riding and pony rides on the farm, and further afield is the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve, Eseltjies Donkey Sanctuary wine farms and Mc Gregor village with its cafes, restaurants and shops.
The Red Caboose has been charmingly transformed into a cosy living space, perfect for a family stay and offers a delightful and unique experience.
