Recognised as one of the first mixed-race dance companies in South Africa, Moving into Dance Mophatong is an internationally-recognised dancing company that has produced renowned dancers and choreographers with their new Afro-fusion and Edudance styles.

Moving into Dance is a non-profit organisation that was created in 1987 in Johannesburg.

They continue to hold onto the ethos of their founder Sylvia ‘Magogo’ Glasser, who started training youth from disadvantaged areas at the height of apartheid. She hoped that the skills her students learned would help them overcome their socio-economic circumstances.

Sylvia was knighted for her work in the arts by King Willem-Alexander of Holland, earning the title of Dame.

After humble beginnings in her garage, Move into Dance has since developed into one of the premier professional, full-time Contemporary Africa dance companies in South Africa.
