The school is owned by Eric and Deo Eddy and it is run by a competent management team made up of the principal, Terri Kleyn, the manageress, Soladia Pornss and the bursar, Vera Martins.
Deo and Terri are both tertiary trained teachers with over forty years of teaching experience each.
The Learn and Play team of teachers want the BEST for their children and they do their best to develop young children holistically. They take pride in guiding every child according to their potential and follow a varied, educationally enriching, interesting and well-organized daily programme.
All the teachers at the academy are qualified ladies, most of whom are trained with several years of sound experience in working with young children.
Learn and Play Junior Academy cares for children from babies of six weeks to six years of age.
Each age group has their own playground with equipment to strengthen them physically.
The pre-primary children follow a school readiness program of literacy, numeracy, life skills and a basic computer course The pre-primary Grade R children are accepted at all schools in East London.
Daily Routine
The school day is a busy one:- the children discuss different aspects of the theme every day, they do fun, creative activities, they sing songs about the theme (many of the song’s lyrics were written especially by Deo), they dance, they practice listening skills (such an important skill for future learning) they have exciting movement rings and obstacle courses, they build puzzles, enjoy structured quiet play they are read stories around the theme and their daily outside play is organized into different play areas where they have the choice of fantasy/dress up, games, toys, sand and or water play.
Extra special lessons.
Every week the class teacher deals with character building traits.
These help to prepare your children for life and help them to cope with daily problems.
These lessons are sent via WhatsApp to the parents, as are the themes and newsletters.
Learn and Play Graduation Concert.
Our parents are always total AMAZED by what their children, produce at the end of each year at our marvelous Concert!
Our Concerts have been rated by other pre-school teachers and owners as of the BEST in East London.
Meals
The children are served three meals at Learn and Play. A snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon and a hot cooked lunch with pudding every day. All food is prepared on the day using fresh ingredients.
Extra mural activities and outings are offered at an additional cost, such as ballet, swimming, Playball and Fun with English.
School only closes in December and is open during school holidays and over public holidays.
