Animals in Wonderland

It’s true; NatGeo or Discovery channel can never replicate the feeling of interacting with live animals. At Animals in Wonderland in the Gqeberha, you and your kids get to breathe the fresh country air while discovering the beauty and wonder of nature’s amazing creatures.

Established in 2004, Animals in Wonderland is an animal sanctuary that is home to many incredible animals. It boasts about 500 animals including caracal cats, bush pigs, water mongoose, water monitors, black mambas, bat-eared foxes, owls, hawks and many more animals that call South Africa’s Eastern Coastline home.

You will find your hosts and guides, Juan and Jeru, very knowledgeable and passionate about their animals. Through their various educational programmes, they hope to inspire both young and old to look after our planet for future generations.

You will also love their Family Fun Days / Day Visitors’ programme. Every last Sunday of the month, they give the public an opportunity to visit the sanctuary for a fun day out in the country.

Visiting the countryside also happens to be among the best social-distancing-inspired activities. While you are there, you can be assured that they have put in place various protocols to ensure that you and your loved are safe from COVID-19.

Reviews from previous guests

“On meeting Jeru, one immediately realized that this couple are passionate about these animals. The animals seem well looked after. Jeru is also very strict about not keeping animals that have not been hand raised by humans which I think is awesome as it means there are no animals that know what it’s like to be free. Wallace the warthog was amazing, we want a warthog pet now that we’ve met him. Jeru was very knowledgeable on every animal and we learnt a lot. We would highly recommend this as a must for families,” wrote GeorgeMienie on their TripAdvisor page.

javel166 added; “We celebrated our son’s 8th birthday at Animals in Wonderland on Saturday and I am convinced this is the best party venue in PE. There are so many animals to see and they are all so well taken care of. Jeru kept the kids busy for the entire party and they loved every minute. I am most certainly going to take the family to their open days soon. Overall this was just an amazing place to visit.”
