Acrobranch Tree-top Adventure Parks are located in or near most of the large cities in South Africa and offer a refreshing alternative to the usual kids outing.
In essence, each venue has a variety of purpose built obstacle courses that are enormous fun (and safe) for all ages. They also have seating areas for non-active parents and for the hosting of parties. Each venue has a restaurant or a food hut which snacks, refreshments and meals.
Personal experience
At a recent family reunion in Johannesburg I took my kids, nephews and nieces, who range in age from five to 15, to the Acrobranch in Melrose.
What an awesome place! Expect loads of fresh air, plenty of fun and exercise and happy kids.
The registration, despite covid, was quick and easy and their supervisory team were well trained, friendly and capable.
The kids were issued with harnesses and carabiners and assisted with their fitting. They then went through the training routine and were able to follow the safety precautions and always ensure that their harness was connected to the safety wires by one carabiner.
It was wonderful to watch the two five year olds use the safety equipment like a rock climbing professional.
We had booked online and the website gave clear instructions on what to wear (good shoes and flexible clothes) and stated that gloves and masks are a requirement (bring your own or buy on site).
The venue had a variety of difficulties for different age groups. A height measuring pole was located at the registration point which indicated which route would best suite the size of the participant.
We bought the Swinging Tarzan Course on the Blue Route and, with a cappuccino in had from food hut, followed the kids through the course shouting encouragement.
The Blue Route looks daunting as it is well above ground level and has some pretty hair raising obstacles. However, at no time did I think that any of the kids were in danger. Apart from the training course there was always an agile supervisor on hand to assist if the going got a bit tough.
It took the older kids about two hours to complete the course and the two five year olds were a half hour longer. Us parents took loads of photos and videos and thanks to the able staff at Acrobranch, we had some time to chat amongst ourselves too.
This was a lovely out for both parents and kids and would highly recommend Acrobranch. Perhaps the best indication that the kids had loads of fun is their persistent requests to visit Acrobranch again.
