News - Letter from the Owner - March 2010
Bob Woolmer once said to the South African Cricket Team " to get better at what you do, it's not about doing one thing a hundred percent better, it's about doing a hundred things one percent better. The difference between winning and loosing could be one run !"
How much pressure that takes off us if we think about it carefully and what a huge overall difference it would make to our lives if we put it in to practice. Personally I'm trying to do just that - everything better, just a little bit better, one step at a time and not throwing myself in to one thing and letting the rest slide by. What it's given me is the ability to be more patient - with myself, with my family, with my exercise and with my work. It has also given me the acceptance that I can only do as much as I can do. But that whatever it is, I am now at peace with the fact that I'm doing it with my whole heart and to the very best of my ability.
Kids Connection turns 4 in March this year and its been a privilege to be apart of it, not without its hiccoughs or casualties, but its survived and I believe its been able to do so because it doesn't just sell advertising - it carries a solution and a support structure to parents.
There are plenty of new advertisers in this issue. Don't miss the fantastic competition from Gavin Gouws Photography to win a Family Photo Shoot worth R1,000 (pg4) or how to prepare your nanny for emergencies with Donah Rosser's CPR and First Aid Classes (pg6). We're excited to announce that Pillows4Africa launches in PE (pg10) - there's a lot to be said about choosing the right pillows for our children. A great new family venue opened in December, Open Sky Entertainment Park in Little Chelsea (pg 37)
Excellent reading for parents of children who love sport with the importance of perseverance and support of her family from Collegiate Head Girl and current champion of the 3km, 5km and 10km EP ladies open water ocean swimming (pg21) and some important advice from Glenn Bester who has coached more than 8,000 cricketers on how parents can help sporty children (pg22)
With changing times, stress has touched each one of our lives and children may not be excluded, read our researched article (pg34). On a lighter note, I wonder how many children today know what an apron is and the history of what it was originally used for (pg39).
Eastern Cape Motors and the new unrivalled Ford Fiesta continues to impress with its outstanding performance, impressive build, spacious interior and benchmark handling. If you're not in the new Fiesta or purchasing your vehicles from Eastern Cape Motors - it's like the slogan says - you're out !
With Soccer Mania fast approaching for June 2010, as parents, there is a grave concern about what we are going to do with our children over the 5 week long holiday. Be assured that Kids Connection is on a MISSION to present families with an abundance of SAFE entertaining options. So until then I wish you all a wonderful holiday and a blessed break.
