VW Tiguan Allspace review – the perfect family car

The perfect family car

What makes the VW Tiguan Allspace such a special family car? It is obvious that this vehicle has been designed to meet almost every requirement a family has when they travel. Be it to school or an annual holiday.

Extremely Spacious

The boot area is huge (210mm longer than the previous Tiguan model) and more than sufficient to fit the entire luggage complement necessary for a family get away.

If your holiday involves boating or camping then there is a built-in, fold out tow hitch too.

If it’s a lengthy drive to your holiday destination never fear as the rear seating comes with LED downlights that shine onto the fold-out tables without disturbing a fellow passenger or affecting the drivers night vision. Rear passengers can also adjust their air-conditioning and use their own USB port.

There are two unfolding seats in the boot for team sports days that, when opened, still leave room for the kit. Fold down all the rear seats and you can fit an entire mountain bike!

VW Tiguan Allspace driveability

The first thing I noticed when I got behind the wheel was that it was extremely comfortable. Entry and exit are easy; the foot well is deep, the steering solid and smooth and every instrument, knob and button within easy reach.

The infotainement centre has the highest resolution of any that I have seen and is very easy to use. There are two USB ports in the centre console so mom and dad can charge their phones at the same time.

Being a family car, the VW Tiguan Allspace is packed with safety features. The Adaptive Cruise Control brakes and accelerates in a speed range set by the driver. If another vehicle approaches the Tiguan brakes to the same speed and maintains the pre-selected distance.

Features such as LED headlamps with dynamic cornering, an electric tailgate, park distance control, hill assist and trailer assist makes this a very easy car to drive and use.

Unlike many of its bakkie-convert-to-SUV competitors, this is a very attractive vehicle that drives more like a hot hatch back than a rugged pickup.

The new Tiguan Allspace comes standard with a 5-year/90 000 km service plan and a lengthy 15 000 km service interval.

The Comfortline TDI that I dove produced 110kW and 340Nm which ensured that power and speed where available as needed. The 4Motion four wheel drive can take you just about anywhere onto the beach, into the bush or to Walmer Park.
